28. Stories with Kori – Featuring Alexus of Austin’s Coffee Crafters (Ripon, CA)

2/19/20

Meet Alexus, the owner of Austin’s Coffee Crafters. They have been open for a few months and it is one of our favorite local spots! We love love love the feel of her cute shop and of course all of the delicious treats and cups of coffee!

Austin’s Coffee Crafters has become one of my favorite spots to get out and work from. We also love meeting friends for coffee, day dates and playing games with the kiddos.

Alexus shares the story of how Austin’s came to be and we were so honored that she shared that story with us! Austin’s grew out of a need for finding things that Alexus enjoys during a season of grief. Alexus’s brother passed when he was 15 in a very unexpected tragic accident. Through the grieving process, while she sat with her feelings, Alexus reevaluated the purpose of life. She came to the understanding that life isn’t guaranteed so she wanted to spend life doing things that she is passionate about. She is passionate about creating things and treating people with love and respect. She shares that a coffee shop has a community hub feel which paired well with creating a space where people can enjoy and live life well in.

The name Austin’s Coffee Crafters was inspired by her brother. Alexus shared that she wanted to name the coffee shop to remember him and the moments that they enjoyed together instead of focusing on the day he passed. Austin loved his friends and was very outgoing so Austin’s was the perfect name for a coffee shop. The perfect name for a place to gather with your people.

The “crafters” part comes from the heart to actually craft in their space. She loves to create and she wanted people to feel welcome to come in and actually paint with watercolors or create art in the coffee shop.

I could just spend all day chatting with Alexus! She kept talking about the idea of “a life well lived”

Have you ever spent time thinking about what it means to you? What does a “life well lived” look like for you?

Alexus loves creating things. She loves the process of creating things. She also values being nice to other people.

She desires to appreciate people for who they are, complete with quirks. And she is passionate about giving others the tools to “live their own life well lived.”

She hopes that people feel welcomed and loved when they come into Austin’s!

We continued to talk a little bit about seasons, hard seasons and grief.

If you are going through a hard season, Alexus encourages us to sit with that grief. Find a way to understand how you are feeling and find a way to give yourself the space to work through it.

Alexus took the grief she was processing and allowed that season to fuel her heart for the coffee shop. She brought something beautiful to our community.

Before Alexus opened up the coffee shop she worked as a graphic designer which explains why the shop is designed so well! She is constantly infusing the space with beautiful art pieces, textures and elements. She comments saying that the creepy portraits are intentional… haha! As she loves hunting for treasures and finding just the right portraiture.

If you hear one message from our conversation today, Alexus challenges us to do what you love… and be nice to each other.

Alexus is joining us for a giveaway! She is giving away a $25 gift certificate to her coffee shop.
