Yay! Welcome to our stories with Kori today! We are so pumped to share the story of Chelsea Foy of Lovely Indeed. We had so much stinking fun as we talked lots and then headed out for a little adventure of our own. I don’t want to spoil a thing…
I first discovered Chelsea when she was spreading her colorful encouragement on the streets of downtown Modesto and I love how she shares that same heart a little later!
Chelsea has a blog called Lovely Indeed which is all about sharing positivity, uplifting others and creating more loveliness in your every day. She started her blog as a hobby when she was doing musical theater in New York and her hobby turned into something pretty stinking great. People kept coming back to read more and so she kept investing in focusing on something that could be a career. It’s a way to work on the projects that you are passionate about. She infuses color in all of the spaces. And she loves that the blog is authentically them… she has the color-infused in her home just like the color is infused in her blog.
I love this quote from Chelsea … “If it is you – Share it!”
Chelsea started her blog as a hobby. She met her now hubby doing musical theater and she began to blog about their DIY wedding. As she grew and the blog grew with it she started sharing tips for entrepreneurs and solopreneurers as she had learned things from running her blog on her own. She wanted to empower people to make their life the way they want their life to be.
She highlights that you are in charge of your own life…
You are in charge of the amount of positivity that you want to have
You are in charge of the experience that you have every day.
And there are outside factors but Your approach to life is going to be what shapes your life. So she strives to share that message through diy, and crafting and social issues that impact our community.
When you step outside of yourself and your existence and look at the broader picture whether it’s in your community or in the world right now which can kind of be heavy right now. But you can flex your empathy muscle you and bring you back to what’s of value. It for sure doesn’t eliminate the heavy stuff but it allows you to keep showing up to your life.
A few weeks ago Chelsea had asked on IG what is something that you do to combat the first-morning scroll and people responded with writing in a gratitude journal which just changes your perspective on your day. It’s an exercise that might be difficult at first but gratitude is a muscle that grows as we use it.
Ahhh this is one of my favorite parts of our chat…
Chelsea’s next story is one that I stinking love! This next project that she talks about is the one that she was working on when I discovered her blog.
She shared about how she and her husband have a heart for the Modesto area and how when they decided Modesto was going to be the “raise their kids kind of place” they wanted to invest in it. She looked at what she had … which was a little bit of time and a little bit of know-how and what she put together was a project called the Downtown Love Notes.
She would sneak out in the early morning hours when people weren’t quite out and she would write love notes in chalk on the city streets of Modesto. She combined her heart for DIY with her love of our community. The goal was to make people smile and encourage their day. People started finding them and sharing them back. It is a tiny example of using what you have to make an impact on where you are.
“Use the things that you have…
to make the place where you are…
what you want it to be.”
We all have things that we can use to enhance the place where we are…
We often wait until we have the perfect plan, resources, timing, you name it. Which can keep us from doing something that we have a heart for. Taking that next step forward with what you have can make all of the difference. Chelsea goes on to encourage us to meet yourself where you are at. Ask yourself “where am I at?” “What are my skills?” “What lights me up?” “What do I want to change?” And see how all of those questions intersect. Keeping in mind it’s not just about us but also sharing joy with the world around us.
Chelsea has taken all of the things that they have been doing on the blog to the next step. The word that people keep talking about is the word “overwhelm.” People are overwhelmed with life and Chelsea has an actionable strategy to help people get momentum in their goals. And she has created an online course called The Productivity Toolkit with the goal to stress less in order to live more. She says in the course lots that productivity is a form of self-care. When you take the time to make a goal that feels essential to your life and you weed away the junk and the busy work and really focus on how this will make your life and the lives around you better. Those are the things that cause momentum and move you forward. It feels good to accomplish your goals because you are doing what’s in your heart and you are putting it out into the world.
It is full of actionable steps and she believes it will help people find their to their path. There is lots of excitement around this and Chelsea is giving away a membership to their online productivity tool kit. It is a 9 module course with lots of tangible tools to get your life together. It has bonus modules for solopreneuers and one for parents. And she also created a workbook that allows you to deep dive into discovering the things that you are excited about.
Lastly, she shares that if you have a heart for something… do it!
