Why we do what we do… Kori + Jared Photography (and a giveaway)

5/29/19

We have a heart to share the stories of some really cool people doing some really cool things… I get fired up seeing people passionately do what they were created to do. We believe that people and their stories matter. We know that life can be hard…. the day in and day out can be heavy and sometimes we need a little bit of encouragement that what we do matters and that your people and life are worth fighting for. We know life isn’t always picture perfect… but those perfect pictures can be the reminder of the good stuff and such a sweet treasure to pass on down. But before we share with you the stories of other people in the upcoming months I felt like we should start with sharing the heart of why it is that we do what we do.

We are wedding in portrait photographers. We love that natural yummy light whenever shooting both on location and in our cottage studio. We have been shooting for other people almost 9 years. And we love to capture newborns, children, families, engagements and weddings. Each one is so different yet such a special time of life.

My love of photography really started with the love of story telling. I was in Mrs. Hall’s 8th grade class where we had to create an all about me book… which is just a fancy way of saying a scrapbook. That is when I fell in love with scrapbooking. Anyone remember the store called Oh for the Memories? I worked there in high school and college and barely brought home a pay check because I “re-invested” most of it back into paper and stickers. Ha! While I love me some pretty paper and stickers… for me it was about the people. The memories. The everyday moments that really did matter to me. When you scrapbook you spend time focusing on the good. Naturally my love of photography grew out of that. I graduated with my Communications degree and after college I went to work as kinda like a pharmaceutical rep in the dental field. I picked up my camera again as a creative outlet and started capturing anyone I could. I kept at it.

Every time I shoot I fall in love with it all over again. For me it’s about the people. Telling their story. Learning who they are. For me while I love yummy light, it’s never about getting “the shot” it’s about letting those moments unfold. I want people to feel comfortable, natural, and free to be themselves. I want mommas and brides to look at their photos and see their heart’s investment mean something. Those relationships mean something. That those relationships are worth the work.

I have a heart for this photography stuff. And our business has grown and changed over the years. After my accident in February I was just so thankful just to be ABLE. Able to show up. Able to capture clients. Able to recover. And through this whole healing process I just kept holding onto a quote from the Daily Audio bible that talked lots about “taking the next step forward.” I clung to that thought during recovery from my accident because it gave me freedom to NOT have it all figured out. And freedom to not be all the way “back” in order to show up to my life and to work at it. Even if just for itty bitty baby steps. That time allowed me the space to reflect both personally and professionally… and work on recognizing the strengths and challenges of what we do.

Heart work is good work!

There is so much sweet stuff going on around here! We are pumped! I’ve always known that having friends who challenge you to think differently about how you do things is a good thing! On of my dear friends Beckie shared the idea of Pop-in Portraits with me! And I fell in love with it. Pop-in Portraits don’t replace your yearly family session they simply add a quick and easy option to capture those month to month photos of your growing kiddos. The goal is to make it more affordable for you. So we have picked some dates through 2019 where we will open our studio for a few hours and you can just pop on in. The investment will be $20 per child and you will receive 3 artist selected photos. We also have an option that is $30 for a single family/group photo. We will have the same chairs and looks so that you can see the growth happen. And we have a heart to keep these simple! You can come every month or just pop in once… there is no obligation. But some guaranteed fun!

So to celebrate all of this sweet stuff… we are hosting a giveaway this week on our instagram! Pop on over to our giveaway photo… it will look like this…

Make sure you are following @koriandjared on instagram and then like the photo that looks like this. Tag three friends who you’d like to pop on in with and enter for your chance to win one of 6 things.
